Evergreen tree 6m or more high, growing naturally on rocks or epiphytic on other trees, with obovate thick leathery, deep green, opposite whitish-pink 20 cm long, without lateral veins, large rose flowers with fleshy petals, 5cm  across. Globose greenish yellow fruit of 8cm dia, splitting open in numerous sections and revealing scarlet pulp with many seeds, eaten by bats.
